Representative (DER) Training
If you are responsible for handling any component of the drug testing program, then as the DER, you have an opportunity to:
- Specific requirements for DERs, per 49 CFR Part 40 and other modal regulations
- Dissemination of DER information
- How to define the players in the drug testing process and their differing responsibilities
- Availability to other program participants, including collectors, BATs, MROs, TPAs, SAPs, labs)
- The training and certification requirements for collectors and BATs
- The differences in the modal regulations, including definitions of covered employees and return-to-duty requirements
- About developing company policies, including consequences of positives, refusals, and adulterated or substituted tests
- Removing of employees from duty, temporarily or permanently
- Referring of employee to physicians or SAPs
- Receiving test results, and maintaining confidentiality
- Obtaining drug/alcohol test records from previous employers
- How to handle problem tests, including shy bladder and shy lung, cancelled tests, and correction of errors
- Annual MIS reports (both preparation and submission)
- Employee education and supervisor training
- Maintaining records
